HOWARD COOK, 1901-1980
Considered one of America's best-known print makers including a series of woodcuts of the Grand Canyon in 1927, Howard Cook was also a painter, illustrator and lecturer who served frequently as guest professor in numerous universities and art schools.
Cook’s first visit to New Mexico was the result of a commission he had to illustrate for the Will Cather novel, Death Comes for the Archbishop. He spent two months in Santa Fe investigating the backdrop of this famous novel. Cook met the love of his life when he traveled up to Taos, New Mexico. He married fellow artist Barbara Cook in 1927.
